From Drinks

When you get me started on places to eat in Philadelphia, I get excited pretty quickly. When you ask me about brunch in Philadelphia, you'll be hard-pressed to shut me up. Going to college in this fine culinary city meant I was an expert on brunch; specifically, the places with brunches that could really cure a hangover. There were plenty of solid greasy spoon options (Bui's food truck, I'm looking at you), but White Dog was a little more classy—and right near campus.
All about local, organic ingredients, White Dog was a primer for the things I'd come to look for in much of my food since. But that doesn't mean it still can't give a hangover a good ass-kicking. On a recent visit back, I tried the scrambled egg and sausage hoagie ($10), a grown-up version of the countless breakfast sandwiches I inhaled after bigger nights out.
Willow Acres smoked maple sausage, scrambled eggs, Lancaster smoked cheddar are folded into a crackly-crusted, fresh tasting hoagie roll covered with Sriracha-spiked ketchup (ask for more on the side, you'll want it), and served with tender fingerling potatoes. The hefty sausage provides the sandwich with a wonderful, smoky-sweet flavor that works well with the eggs and salty cheddar cheese. A hangover brunch in a grown up setting? Can't complain about that.
